Peace Links: Grass Roots Initiatives for Peace in Israel Palestine

Joint Projects of Israelis and Palestinians:

Tsur Hadassah and Wadi Fukin two villages, one on the Israeli side of the pre-1967 border and the other on the West Bank side. Jews from Tsur Hadassah approached the Palestinian residents of Wadi Fukin (Green Valley) with an offer of help. They would work together to stop water pollution coming from the nearby illegal Jewish settlement and to stop the encroaching separation wall. Instead of a human rights approach they applied Israeli environmental law. So far they are winning. (Note: Green Action, one of the suppliers of olive oil for Peace Oil, has a project helping women in Wadi Fukin sell their produce.)

Watch this excellent movie about the collaboration between the two villages:

Oasis of Peace (Neve Shalom in Hebrew and Wahat al-Salam in Arabic) is a intentional community of Jews and Arabs living in Israel. Not only is it a model of peaceful coexistence it also runs several projects providing assistance in the West Bank. http://nswas.org/rubrique38.html

Bat Shalom : women with a vision for a just peace Bat Shalom translate to Daughters of Peace. "Envisioning a peace rooted in the needs, rights, values and histories of both the Israeli & Palestinian people. http://www.batshalom.org/

Brit Shalom/Tahalof Essalam translate to Covenant of Peace. "… we, members and volunteers of Brit Shalom/Tahalof Essalam - the Jewish-Palestinian Peace Alliance: an organization by Jews and Palestinians, undertake to contribute energy, time and funds towards systematic, informed, serious, persistent and efficient activity for peace." http://www.britshalom.org/

Peace it Together is based in British Columbia and brings together groups of Palestinian and Israeli teens from Israel Palestine as well as Canadian teens to work collaboratively on media presentations to promote peace. http://www.creativepeacenetwork.ca/

Ta'ayush, Arab Jewish Partnership demonstrates against the separation fence and other oppressive measures of the occupation. Israelis and Palestinians stand side-by-side in the West Bank. Too often they have to withstand forceful tactics used by the IDF to break up peaceful demonstrations. Click here for a particularly interesting story on their website. http://www.taayush.org/

Just Vision is a nonprofit organization that informs local and international audiences about under-documented Palestinian and Israeli joint civilian efforts to resolve the conflict nonviolently. Using media and educational tools, Just Vision raises awareness in order to encourage civic participation in grassroots peace building. Their most recent effort is the film Budrus about a growing non-violent civil disobedience movement of Palestinians and Israelis that is working to protect Palestinian land from encroachment by the "security fence." See the trailer below:
